Port of Singapore Marks Slide in Container Volumes

The second busiest port in the world, the Port of Singapore, handled 6.5% less containers in the first nine months of 2015, compared to the same period a year earlier.

According to the data provided by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the port handled 23.5 million TEUs from January 1 to September 30, 2015, as compared to 25.13 million TEUs handled in the same period in 2014.

The September volumes at the port marked a double digit slide. The Port of Singapore handled 2.43 million TEUs in September 2015, a 13.5% drop compared to 2.8 million TEUs handled in September 2014.

The world’s busiest port, the Port of Shanghai in China, handled 27.4 million TEUs in the first nine months of 2015.
