PSA Inspects Barrier Management at Wintershall’s Brage

The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has carried out an audit of Wintershall’s barrier management at Brage.

Wintershall Norge is the operator of the Brage field, located in the North Sea, approximately 13 kilometers east of Oseberg.

Brage has been developed using an integrated facility on a steel jacket. The oil from the field is transported by pipeline to Oseberg and from there to the Sture terminal, while gas is transported through Statpipe. Wintershall took over the field’s operatorship from Statoil in 2013.

The objective of the audit was to assess how Wintershall is ensuring compliance with barrier management requirements for the operation and management of the Brage facility.

The audit took place on October 26 and 27, 2016.

A non-conformity was identified in connection with the completion of the barrier management system, PSA said.

In addition, improvement points were detected in connection with:

  • inspection history for penetrations in fire walls; and
  • facility-specific information in performance standards.

Wintershall has been given a deadline of January 02, 2017, to report on how the non-conformity will be dealt with and how the improvement points will be assessed, PSA added.
