Qatar Chosen to Host Gas Exporters Forum in November

 

Qatar has been chosen to host the next meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to be held in November 2011, Iran’s representative to Gas Exporting Countries Forum, Mohammad Ali Khatibi announced.

The decision was made during a meeting of the ministers participating in the forum, held in Cairo, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

Khatibi said that the Cairo meeting was “positive” and had examined the report of Secretariat and some other reports.

It’s worth mentioning that, balancing the price of natural gas with oil, advantages of natural gas as a clean energy and the latest developments in gas market was among the topics on the Cairo meeting.

GECF includes eleven member countries while three other states attend the meeting as observers.

The member countries hold 42 percent of the global gas production, 70 percent of the world gas reserves, 38 percent of gas pipelines and 85 percent of LNG trade.

Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela are the eleven members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
