Qatargas Delivers 1st Spot LNG Cargo to JERA

Business & Finance

Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) has shipped its first spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to Japan’s newly established energy company JERA.

JERA is a joint venture between two of Japan’s largest power utility companies – Chubu Electric Power and TEPCO Fuel & Power.

The delivery follows an agreement on the first purchase under the recently signed master sales and purchase deal between the duo.

The cargo was delivered onboard the Q-Flex LNG Vessel, Al Ruwais, to the Futtsu LNG Terminal in Tokyo Bay on May 13, 2016.

Qatargas says it will be supplying a total of nearly seven million tons of LNG per year under a long-term agreement with JERA.

In 2015, Qatargas delivered a total of 14.6 million tons of LNG to Japan.

Last month, Qatargas, United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) and Shell signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development of LNG as a marine fuel in the Middle East region.
