Qatargas JBOG Project Celebrates Safety Achievements

The Qatargas Jetty Boil-Off Gas (JBOG) Project team recently celebrated its fifth Safety Day at Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC).

Held at the JBOG Project Global Village camp in Ras Laffan Industrial City, the “Safety Day” offered the 2000 JBOG workers not only a brief respite from their grueling work routine, but also provided an opportunity for the JBOG management team to thank them for their wonderful safety performance.  The event was organised by the JBOG Project Management Team with support from its contractors, i.e., Fluor, Qcon, Qatar Kentz, Medgulf, Teyseer, Shaqab Abela, G4S and Draieh.

Commenting on the celebration, Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer, Engineering & Ventures said:
Qatargas’ vision is to be the premier LNG Company in the world, and the JBOG Project has shown what a premier safety performance looks like.  The JBOG Project has not only achieved 19 million manhours while keeping their people safe, but also managed to sustain an Incident and Injury Free work site for 12 consecutive weeks.  I am pleased to see that the JBOG Management Team has recognized the strong safety performance of the workers by organizing this safety day.  I commend the JBOG Management Team, their contractors and their workers on keeping themselves safe, and urge them to maintain their high safety standards up to the last day of the project.

The JBOG Project Manager, Bashir Mirza added:
I am very proud of the JBOG team comprising of Qatargas and all of our contractors, for sustaining our excellent safety record into the third year of construction.  The outstanding feat of keeping everybody on the project safe for over three years and 19 million manhours does not come easy.  It has taken hard work, rigorous training and sharp vigilance on a daily basis by everyone to ensure that Everybody Goes Home Safe.  It was a delight to see our workers participate in our fifth Safety Day with a lot of enthusiasm and joy.  The real heroes of JBOG’s safe working success are our workers, and this safety day was a small token of our gratitude to them”.

The Safety Day celebration was kicked off with an early morning site visit during which the senior project and contractors’ leadership team toured the various project site locations and talked to the workers about working safely.  A special dinner was arranged for the workers in the Global Village camp.

The activities for the day included contractor’s safety display booths, safety quiz contests,  and awards and recognition for demonstrating safety excellence.  Winners of the poster making contest, the best safety booth and the safety quizzes were given prizes.  Several attractive prizes were given away through a raffle draw.  Musical entertainment was provided by groups of talented workers, who thrilled the audience with their pleasing performance.
