QCLNG all set for major milestone

BG Group’s Queensland Curtis LNG project in Australia is getting ready for the start of export operations.

Recent reports revealed that the project is set for a major milestone since the start of construction in 2010. The QCLNG facility is ready for the first cargo of liquefied natural gas produced from coal seams, and it will probably be shipped to Asia.

According to the information released by the Gladstone Port Corporation, BG-chartered LNG carrier, the 145,000 cbm Methane Rita Andrea, is scheduled for docking at QCLNG’s marine offloading facility on December 20.

The $20.4 billion project has reached the completion following extensive operations that saw the extension of QGC’s, a BG Group unit, existing natural gas production in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland. A 540km buried natural gas pipeline network linking the gas fields to Gladstone has also been constructed together with the 8.5 mtpa natural gas liquefaction plant on Curtis Island, near Gladstone.
