QED Naval opens tender for IRM works

Scottish marine engineering firm QED Naval has launched a tender for inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) works related to Subhub tidal platform refitting.

Aside from the IRM works, the invitation to tender also extends to the operations covering hot work removals of steelwork on the top deck in order to fit the new crossbeam support structure for the tidal turbines.

To remind, QED Naval has last months issued a tender for crossbeam fabrication to support the Tocardo T1 tidal turbines that will be fitted to the platform as part of the € 45.4 million Interreg TIGER project.

Furthermore, the fitting of the tidal turbines, as well as commissioning and testing of all the equipment, forms part of the works requested in the tender.

Subhub will then be deployed to Yarmouth Harbour in the Isle of Wight for performance trials to validate the energy yield from the newly fitted tidal turbines, according to QED Naval.

The tender is open for applications until 13 November, 2020.

Subhub is a submersible, gravity based, foundation platform that supports every need of tidal turbines through life, according to QED Naval.

It has been designed to support the commissioning, testing, transportation, and installation of an array of wave and tidal turbines to the seabed.
