QGC Awards Earthmoving Contract, Australia

QGC Pty Limited has awarded an earthmoving contract to T&W Earthworks of Condamine that is expected to double the firm’s workforce.

T&W Earthworks will clear, grade and build natural gas well sites and roads for up to three years in the Surat Basin and is expected to employ up to 50 people to do the work.

QGC Managing Director Derek Fisher said the contract demonstrated QGC’s commitment to employing local people and to using local goods and services where possible.

“Across our project area, local communities are benefitting from QGC’s investment in home-grown suppliers of goods and services,” Mr Fisher said.

“We will be operating in the Surat Basin for decades and we want local businesses to thrive and develop through our presence.”

The contract brings QGC’s investment on earthmoving with Surat Basin suppliers to more than A$300 million after the award of work to five local businesses in 2012.

In total, up to 250 jobs will be created by Bruhl Roadworks and Earthmoving of Tara; Mike Jones Earthmoving of Wandoan; Ostwald Brothers of Dalby; Jeff Reid Earthmoving of Emerald; Clein Excavations and Tipper Hire of Chinchilla; and T&W Earthworks.

More than 11,600 people are working with QGC and its Queensland Curtis LNG Project.

The company has invested more than A$14.9 billion since 2010, 64% of which – or A$9.6 billion – has gone to Queensland firms.

QGC has invested about A$684 million in the Western Downs.

QGC’s major tender documents and contracts require Australian suppliers to be given full, fair and reasonable opportunity to participate in QCLNG.
