Quadra Marina Dredging Plan Step Closer to Realization (Canada)

The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, announced three contract awards for general maintenance at 19 Wing Comox.

The overall value of the contracts is approximately $1.22 million.

The Government of Canada is determined to improve infrastructure across the Canadian Armed Forces and is moving forward on these much needed projects,” said Minister MacKay.

The contract awards for general maintenance include:

-the minor recapitalization of “JJ” style housing which was awarded to Comox Consolidators Limited for $437 000;

-upgrades to siding on Department of National Defence housing which was awarded to Hand and Hammer Contracting for $229 400; and

-the dredging of the Quadra Marina which was awarded to JJM Construction Limited for $557 808.

Quadra Marina Project Description:

The project involves the maintenance dredging of four discrete zones under and around the CFB Comox Cadet small boat marina and fuel float. The total volume of marine sediments to be dredged is estimated to be 7,616 cubic metres. The dredged sediment will be transported by barge to the nearby Cape Lazo disposal at sea site for off-loading and disposal. The project also involves temporarily removing sections of the marina floats and fuel dock floats to provide access for dredging. Once the dredging is complete, the floats will be re-installed with new timber piles. The scope of work includes dredging, timber pile removal, supply & install new timber piles, re & re of electrical, water, fuel lines, and dock floats.
