RasGas and Qatargas Inaugurate New Al Khor International School Building

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Al Khor Community, RasGas Company Limited and Qatargas joined together with Al Khor International School (AKIS) faculty and students last week to officially open their new state-of-the art school building. The new facility is wholly funded by both RasGas and Qatargas as part of their commitment to providing quality education to the children of their employees.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Erhama Al Kaabi, RasGas’ Employee Development and Welfare Group Manager, said: “On behalf of RasGas, I am proud and delighted to be here today to officially open this new state-of-the-art facility. I’m confident that it will be of enormous benefit and bolster the delivery of the school’s excellent curriculum for its students from some 50 nationalities.”

Mr Lyal French-Wright, Principal of the British stream, stated: “AKIS has persistently achieved fantastic academic results over the years and won numerous international, national and regional prizes in the fields of sports, music and drama. With the additional space and impressive facilities of our new school building, we look forward to aspiring even higher and achieving even more in the coming decades.”

The new facilities include a multi-purpose gymnasium with a climbing wall and seating galleries, an outdoor soccer/rugby pitch, 100-metre sprint track and long-jump pit, sports courts, two computer labs, two new science labs, an art studio, food technology room, meeting halls, and indoor swimming pool.

AKIS is a co-educational institution with English and Indian curricula serving all education levels, from reception to secondary.

To celebrate the opening of the new building, the school provided a programme of culture and entertainment by students, including an orchestral performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, singing and a folk dance. There were also addresses by the school’s head boys and head girls.
