Remontowa Secures Royal Arctic Gig

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. has won a contract to build five new cargo vessels for Royal Arctic Line A/S of Denmark.

The order replaces a broadly similar five-vessel contract with the bankrupt P&S Werften in Germany, reports Maritime Denmark.

Under the contract, Remontowa will build a 606 TEU sister ship to the Mary Arctica, replacing Arina Arctica on transatlantic routes. The vessel will also be used for special tasks in the East Coast, Thule Air Base and Antarctica.

In addition, the shipyard will construct two 100 TEU vessels that will fill in for Pajuttaat on annual chartering and will be mainly engaged in the supply of North Greenland.

There are also two smaller 30 TEU ships on order intended to substitute Royal Arctic’s older vessels on year-round supply service.

The scheduled delivery date for the five newbuilds is the first half of 2015.
