Soco discovers oil offshore Congo

Soco International has made an oil discovery offshore the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville).

Report Soco finds oil offshore Congo

The discovery was made at the Lidongo X Marine-101 (“LXM-101”) well in the Congo basin.

The LXM-101 well is located in the Marine XI Block, 23 kilometres north west of Pointe Noire in a water depth of approximately 45 metres.

The well encountered oil in a clastics sequence in the Djeno sand formation with drilling shows and early log interpretation indicating approximately a 50 metre gross interval.

Soco has explained that due to the tight nature of the reservoir sands a 20 metre section has been selected for testing. The zone will be tested after a 7″ liner is set and cemented. Testing, including utilising a stimulation frac, is expected to take approximately three weeks. After the completion of testing there will be a further release with results.

The well, spudded in August 2014, was drilled using the jack-up drilling rig Noble Percy Johns.
