RoPax Ferry Bursts in Flames at Elefsis Port

A passenger/RoRo cargo ship caught fire while docked at the Greek port of Elefsis in the evening hours of July 14, according to local maritime authority.

The RoPax ferry Evgenia P reportedly burst into flames while docked at the ”Kronos” area of the port.

Hellenic Coast Guard dispatched a patrol boat, and local Fire Service sent three firefighting tugs to the scene.

The fire was completely put out after several hours, according to the Coast Guard. The Elefsis Harbour Organisation placed a preventive anti-pollution floating barrier around the 1944-built Evgenia P.

The fire had reportedly started in the aft area of the ship, and then spread to the bridge and the accommodation areas.

There have been no reported injuries or pollution so far.
