Rosneft, Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia pen Arctic deal

Rosneft President, Chairman of the Management Board Igor Sechin and Minister of Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Relief of the Russian Federation Vladimir Puchkov signed a cooperation agreement.

The parties agreed upon cooperation in the region of protection of territories and population during exploration of hydrocarbon resources on the continental shelf of the Russian Federation in the Arctic.

In accordance with an agreement, as part of Russian Unified Emergency Rescue Service, Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and Rosneft will cooperate regarding:

*possible emergency prevention and relief driven by oil and oil products spillage during geological exploration and exploration of hydrocarbons resources within the territorial sea and on the continental shelf of the Russian Federation under international treaties of the Russian Federation and norms of international law;
*organization of possible emergency monitoring in the Arctic, and preparation of exercise and drill aimed at their prevention and relief;
*examination of causes and nature of accident consequences, incidents, and emergencies in oil and gas industry in arctic conditions;
*scientific research in the region of development and implementation of new equipment and technologies aimed at emergency prevention and relief;
*programs and activities aimed at safety control of territories and population during prospecting, exploration, production, transportation, and refining of hydrocarbons and related cargo-handling operations in the Russian part of the Arctic.

The agreement with Ministry of Emergency Situations is an important part of the Company group of actions aimed at environment protection and conservation of biological diversity, also at the Arctic coast,’ Rosneft President Igor Sechin noted.

Ministry of Emergency Situations and Rosneft have a long association in the region of emergency prevention and relief operations.

Rosneft branches regularly carry out demonstration fire tactic drills of fire fighting on the critical infrastructure, also at training grounds of Ministry of Emergency Situations in different regions of Russia. The agreement signed today classifies existing areas of cooperation, and define new mutual objectives.
