RS Awarded Vice-Chairmanship of IACS’ Quality Committee

The Vice-Chairmanship of the Quality Committee of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has been given to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS).

The electoral procedure took place last month in Houston, USA during the 41-th Committee meeting. The main tasks with which the Committee is faced today are the development of the general performance indicator system for IACS member societies as well as improving the process of the societies’ interaction with independent certification bodies.

One of the important outcomes of the IACS Quality Committee activities in recent years is the implementation of the IMO Code for Recognised Organisations (IMO RO Code) in the IACS Quality System Certification Scheme (IACS QSCS), which took place on 1 January 2014.

The Code will come in force on 1 January 2015 and set down the recognised organisations recognition and assessment procedure by the maritime administrations.
