RS Recognised by Maritime Administration of Belgium

An Agreement Governing the Delegation of Regulatory Services Associated with the Issue and Renewal of Certificates for Ships Flying the Belgian Flag was signed between Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and the Maritime Administration (MA) of Belgium on November 13, 2012 in Brussels.

The scope of authority delegated to RS includes ship surveys for compliance with the applicable international treaties of Belgium and will expand progressively with its accession to new international treaties.

On behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium the Agreement was signed by deputy prime-minister and minister for the economy consumer market and the North Sea Johan Vande Lanotte, on the part of the RS – RS chief executive officer Mikhail Ayvazov.

At the signing ceremony Mikhail Ayvazov said: “Signing of the Agreement is a confirmation of the joint success of RS and the Maritime Administration of Belgium. We hope that the good traditions of our cooperation will enable us to develop our relationship at a new level, based on our mutual interest. For the Maritime Administration of Belgium the agreement with RS means further systematisation and improved monitoring of its fleet condition and therefore efficient implementation of international maritime safety standards”.

RS actively develops policy of promoting international cooperation on a wide range of services for merchant shipping. Belgium has become the 70th flag state and 16th EU-member state to have authorised RS as a recognised organisation.
