RS to Undertake Independent Assessment of QMS for Compliance with STCW Convention
In 2014, FAI Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), under authorisation of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport, has reported that it will undertake an independent assessment of quality management systems (QMS) of organisations engaged in simulator training as well as seafarer training and certification in compliance with the requirements of Section А-I/8 of the Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention.
“20 sectoral higher educational institutions and their branches, 16 seaport administrations as well as simulator centres involved in educational processes are subject to the assessment,” explains Sergey Baranov, head of the RS Management Systems, Products and Services Certification Department.
The report containing results of the assessment, according to the requirements of the STCW Convention, will be forwarded to the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
An advisory panel on the development of quality management systems of higher educational institutions has been established on the basis of Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University.
