vng First Stage of Ambitious Zvezda Shipbuilding Project Nears Completion

The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) represented by the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC) is building a new modern shipyard in Bolshoi Kamen, first shipbuilding yard in Primorsky region. The first stage of this ambitious project is almost complete.

The commissioning of hull fabrication workshop and painting workshops will enable to produce ship structures with up to 300 ton weight and vessels with up to 13 000 ton launching weight. On completion of the fourth stage of construction, Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex will produce vessels with up to 350 thousand ton displacement, LNG carriers, ice class vessels, specialized vessels, offshore platform units and other types of marine structures.

Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, recently visited the Zvezda shipbuilding complex in Bolshoi Kamen Bay during his trip to Primorski Krai. Deputy Prime Minister personally inspected the construction site and had a word with the yard’s officers. Yury Filchenok, a Deputy General Director of JSC FESRC, said that the Zvezda shipbuilding complex has four construction phases, and these days the first phase of construction – a hull fabrication workshop and the painting workshops—nears its completion.

The central feature of the project is that the yard capacity expansion is performed without shutting down the FEY Zvezda’s operation.

The yard will have considerably expanded its production range as soon as by 2013 when the Zvezda shipbuilding complex will be capable of producing vessel structures up to 300 tons and vessels with a launching weight of 13,000 tons downwards. After the full realization of the project the Zvezda shipbuilding complex will deliver tankers with a displacement up to 350,000 tons, LNG carriers, ice-rated vessels, specialized vessels, offshore structures’ parts and other type marine structures.

Having toured the shops under construction Dmitry Rogozin headed to the covered shipways housing a tanker being built to transport oil in polar waters. Within the next few years the company will build four vessels of this design.
