Offshore Icebreaking PSV Put into Operation

Offshore icebreaking platform supply vessel built by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard and Vyborg Shipyard JSC has been put into operation. Lead ship of the series of multipurpose platform supply vessels “Vitus Bering” ordered by Sovcomflot Group was accepted for operation on 21st December 2012.

Construction of the serial vessels is a joint project of the Russian and Finnish shipbuilders. About 90 % of steel structures were fabricated at Vyborg Shipyard. Final backfit of the vessels will be performed in St.-Petersburg.

According to the press-service of Sovcomflot JSC, as of today, Dec 27th, the vessels of the series “Vitus Bering” are among world best in their class. They have optimal power characteristics of diesel generators and propulsion units, special hull design to operate astern in ice conditions and equipped with dynamic positioning system. Winterization system of the vessels guarantees safe operation in 1.7m thick ice.

Design and equipment of the vessels allow all-the-year-round delivery of necessary supplies and consumables and transfer of the personnel to the production platforms.
