Russia Starts Construction of Deep-Sea Research Submarine

Sevmash shipyard recently marked a start of construction of a nuclear-powered deep-sea research submarine in Russia.

Rubin Central Design Bureau designed the submarine which will be used for multi-purpose research missions in remote areas of the oceans and will also take part in a search and rescue operations, Eurasia Review informs.

The main tasks which the submarine is going to perform are installation of subsea equipment and inspections; testing new types of scientific and research equipment; and monitoring transport routes.

The Sevmash shipyard did not disclose the expected date of completion of the submarine.
