Russia: Zvezda Shipyard Starts Construction of Ice-breaker Tanker for Rosneft

 

Zvezda shipyard in Russia’s Far East has commenced the construction of an ice-breaker tanker for the Russia’s leading extraction and refinement company Rosneft.

The ice-breaker tanker accounts for the first in a new series of “enhanced ice-class” tankers.

Two vessels expected to have a capacity of over 5,100 tons are intended to be delivered to Rosneft in 2013.

Based in Bolshoy Kamen of Primorsky Krai OJSC Far East Plant “Zvezda” is the leading company for repair of submarines of the Pacific Fleet and the only shipbuilder in the Far East specializing in repair, refurbishment and modernization of nuclear missile submarines. The shipyard is majority owned by OJSC Far East Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (DTSSS, subholding of JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation), holding a 78.73 percent stake.
