RWE-Dea to Use West Alpha Rig near Heidrun, Offshore Norway

RWE-DEA Norge AS has received consent to carry out exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea with the West Alpha mobile facility.

The consent relates to drilling of exploration well 6507/7-15S which is part of production licence 435 with RWE-DEA Norge AS as the operator (40%).

The other licensees are Norwegian Energy Company ASA (20%), Maersk Oil Norway AS (20%) and Edison International Norway Branch (20%).

The well is located approx. 15 kilometres northwest of Heidrun, 40 kilometres north of Åsgard B and 178 kilometres from the Norwegian coast.

The well has the following geographical coordinates:

N 65° 25’ 31.81’’, E 07° 05’ 56.11’’. Water depth at the site is 399 metres.

The earliest start of drilling will be in October 2011. The activity has an expected duration of 81 to 122 days, depending on any discoveries.

West Alpha is a type “Dyvi Drilling Ultra Yatzy” semi-submersible drilling facility. It was built in 1986.

The facility is owned and operated by North Atlantic Drilling (formerly Seadrill), and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in December 2011.
