RWE taking majority ownership of Rampion offshore wind farm
German energy company RWE has taken over an additional 20 per cent stake in the Rampion wind farm off the UK from E.ON.
Following the closing of the transaction in the first half of 2021, RWE will control a 50.1 per cent stake in the 400 MW wind farm off Sussex. Confidentiality has been agreed on the purchase price, RWE said.
RWE Renewables is already operating the wind farm.
The acquisition is part of the full implementation of the transaction between RWE and E.ON which started back in 2019 through which RWE took over E.ON’s renewable energy assets.
At the time, E.ON transferred a 30.1 per cent stake in the wind farm to RWE.
Rampion is located 13 kilometres off the coast of Sussex in the English Channel. The project was fully commissioned in April 2018.
The remaining 49.9 per cent stake in the wind farm is held by a Macquarie-led consortium (25 per cent) and the Canadian energy company Enbridge (24.9 per cent).
