Samsung Heavy Adds Five Boxships

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced today in its regulatory filing to the Korea Stock Exchange that the company has won newbuild orders worth approx $422 million for the construction of five boxships.

Under the contract, signed yesterday with an Asian owner, SHI will build five state-of-the-art container vessels slated for delivery in 2015.

Samsung Heavy Industries is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world and one of the “Big Three” shipbuilders of South Korea. The company operates manufacturing facilities at home and abroad, including ship block fabrication factories in Ningbo and Rongcheng, China.

SHI specializes in the building of high added-value and special purpose vessels, including LNG carriers, offshore related vessels, drillships, FPSO/FSO’s, ultra large container ships and Arctic shuttle tankers.
