Sanctions Eased against Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port

The first foreign cargo is about to berth at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port, marking the port’s official comeback to providing of international container services, after lifting of EU sanctions against the port’s operator Tidewater Middle East Company, Fars news agency reports.

 
The cargo will be brought in by a Taiwanese container ship, scheduled to call at the port on July 20, according to Ali Jahandideh, deputy director of the Ports and Maritime Organisation of Iran.

The Taiwanese ship, said to be owned by Wan Hai, will be followed by counterparts from India, China, and South Korea, Ali Jahandideh said.

As explained, Iran is working on attracting more international shipping companies to the port in order to boost its operations and the feedback is said to be pretty high.

The sanctions on Tidewater Middle East Co imposed in 2012 barred EU persons or entities from making direct or indirect payments for Tidewater’s benefit.

Lifting of sanctions against Iranian companies, such as those related to blacklisting of Iran’s leading oil tanker firm NITC will of course pave way for their respective recoveries, nevertheless, there is a long way ahead of them to restore their operation to pre-sanction levels.
