Sapura nabs $147 million in E&C and drilling contracts

Malaysia’s Sapura Energy has won RM615 million (~$147 million) worth of contracts in the Engineering and Construction (E&C) as well as Drilling segments of its business.

The U.S. oil firm Hess has awarded Sapura Fabrication a contract to engineer, build, deliver and install offshore facilities for Full Field Development (FFD) Phase 3, North Malay Basin project, offshore. Sapura Fabrication also
undertook work on FFD Phase 1 and FFD Phase 2 Facilities for Hess.

Offshore Mozambique, Sapura Energy will be undertaking its first deep-water project in Area 4, Rovuma Basin. The contract, awarded by Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A., is for the provision of a subsea installation vessel for transportation and installation of Christmas Trees.

In Brazil, Petrobras has awarded Sapura Navegação Marítima S.A. a contract extension to charter and operate Sapura Topazio, a dynamic positioning (DP) 2 self-propelled pipelaying vessel. Sapura said the Petrobras contract came on the back of the successful completion of a five-year charter with Petrobras where the ultra-deepwater pipelay vessel had achieved 98 per cent uptime utilization for the five-year period. The Malaysian company did not provide any details on the terms of the extension.

In the Drilling segment, Sapura Drilling Asia, has been awarded a contract extension for the provision of its semi-submersible tender assist drilling rig, Sapura Esperanza, by Shell. The contract, which entails drilling six wells for Malikai phase 2 drilling campaign, offshore Sabah, will see work starting in Q3 FY21.

The contracts, valued at approximately RM615 million (~$147 million), bring the total order book year-to-date to RM15.1 billion, ($3,6 billion)
