SBSS Completes Cable System Installation Outside Hong Kong

August 2012 marks another significant milestone for SBSS. Their cable ship CS Fu Hai laid the final section ASE phase 2 successfully outside Hong Kong waters marking the completion of installation of the 4000km cable system.

SBSS was contracted by customer NEC for both Phase 1 & 2 of ASE main lay installation. Due to the heavy load of the entire cable length, Fu Hai had to undertake some essential deck and storage tank preparations to ensure her performance and holding capacity before sailing out from SBSS Depot in Shanghai to load 5350tonnes of OCC cables on end Sept 2011.

During the work, Fu Hai conducted various complex operation such as deep water Branching Unit deployment, UP Pipe protection for cable crossing area and about 1400km of simultaneous lay and burial (1.5m-3.0m burial depth range) utilizing SBSS’s proven Hi-Plough system.

There has been a number challenges during the course of this 10month installation campaign were encountered in this work including severe weather and high standards of client requirements to meet. However, both crew and vessel undertook the challenges with stride, completing the 10-month operation with minimal disruption. This project also marks the longest project that the vessel had undertaken.

The success of ASE project is a testament of SBSS’s commitment to high quality service on both marine installation and project management.

The ASE project (Asia Submarine Cable Express) is a long-haul submarine telecom system in the Asia-Pacific region with about 8000km cable linking Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine, Hong Kong and Japan.
