Shipping Corporation of India’s offshore vessel working for oil company ONGC sank off the coast of Mumbai on Tuesday.

According to SCI, the SCI Ratna vessel sank around 19:30 local time. It was working at ONGC’s Bombay High field when the incident happened.

“All the 16 shipboard personnel who were on board the vessel have been rescued and are safe on board Greatship Prachi,” SCI said in a statement.

SCI said the probable reason of sinking of 2011-built anchor handler was ingress of water in the engine room.

“The actual cause is yet to be ascertained and is being investigated,” SCI said.
