Scottish Gov, DECC seek consultancy services

The Scottish Government and the UK Government’s Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) are looking for consultancy services to develop a proposal for marine energy research and development activities on Orkney.

The aim of this call for proposals is to secure a clear pathway towards full commercialisation for the marine energy sector.

The proposal should be able to be used to outline a compelling case for the EU funding support.

The two key elements for which the funding support will be required are:

  • the research and demonstration activity itself,
  • the investment in the associated grid infrastructure.

This work relates to a high-profile initiative between the two Governments, who are working together as part of the Scottish Islands Renewables Delivery Forum.

“The proposal that we seek to be developed for Orkney must be highly credible and robust, and the issues it will need to address are substantial and complex. However if a successful output can be delivered, it could play a pivotal role towards the future success of the marine industry on Orkney. We are therefore looking for a consultant that is capable of developing innovative ideas and shares our ambitions for the marine energy sector,” it is stated in the contract notice.

The proposals are due by October 19, 2015.

The Forum is chaired by Ministers from the Scottish and UK Governments and aims to support the delivery of the huge renewable energy potential of the Scottish islands, and the necessary grid infrastructure.
