Scottish Renewables on OWF Consents: Focus Now Moves to Accessing CfDs

Scottish Renewables has commented on the awarding of consent to the Inch Cape, Neart na Gaoithe and Seagreen Alpha and Bravo offshore wind farms.

Lindsay Leask, Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said:

“These consents represent a massive leap forward for Scotland’s emerging offshore wind industry, and take us a step closer to realising the social, economic and environmental benefits of this hugely important technology.

“This announcement comes after years of hard work, including the production of extensive environmental surveys, from all the developers involved.

“All commercial-scale Scottish offshore wind projects now have consent, and have the potential to generate up to 4.15GW of clean electricity – enough to power up to three million homes. The focus now moves on to whether developers can access a Contract for Difference – the new support mechanism for nuclear, renewables and carbon capture and storage.

“This industry has the potential to generate massive amounts of renewable power for homes and businesses and support thousands of new jobs while helping to slash Scotland’s carbon emissions.”
