Seafarer Evacuated from d’Amico Tanker

One of the crew members from the tanker High Courage was evacuated from the ship after he lost consciousness and needed immediate medical attention.

As a prudent measure, the Master requested medevac of the electrician on September 22.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) deployed its Air Sea Rescue officers to assist the man. An NYPD medic was sent from a helicopter to stabilize the man so he could be flown to a hospital.

The officers hoisted the seafarer into the helicopter and transported him to a hospital for treatment. The crewman was taken to the Staten Island University Hospital and later released having suffered from low blood sugar.

At the time of the incident, the 46,992 dwt was some 16 miles off the coast of Breezy Point, New York.

The 2005-built tanker, operated by Italy’s d’Amico International Shipping, was sailing from Perth Amboy to New York.
