Seafarer Medevaced from Stolt Tanker Due to Burns

A 49-year-old crew member was medevaced from the chemical tanker Stolt Perseverance in the evening hours of May 11, the US Coast Guard informed.

The seafarer was reportedly burned by venting steam aboard the chemical tanker while the ship was some 48 miles offshore.

The captain of the 580-foot tanker, owned by Norway-based Stolt Tankers, notified the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders of the incident and requested a medevac.

A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the crewmember and transported him to awaiting University of Texas Medical Branch personnel at Scholes International Airport at Galveston.

Weather on scene was reported as 16 mph winds with 3-foot seas.
