The search and rescue operation for the missing captain of the MV Hanjin Miami containership has been suspended after over three days.

The captain of the containership, operated by German Reederei NSB, went missing on May 15th off the southwest coast of India.

“After a total of 77 hours of intense search, where several vessels and an aircraft were involved, and after consideration of all operative and medical facts the SAR operations have been finally stopped on Tuesday 19th May. Our Captain could not be found,” Spokesperson of Reederei NSB told World Maritime News in an emailed statement.

“The impressions of the incident are leaving our company shocked. Our thoughts are with the family,” the statement reads.

The German-flagged vessel, built in 2005, is currently en route toward the Suez.
