Searcher Seismic expands data library with PNG survey

Searcher Seismic, in cooperation with BGP, has expanded its offshore data library with the completion of the acquisition of the Triok broadband non-exclusive 2D seismic survey in the Northern Basins of Papua New Guinea.

The Triok 2D seismic survey comprises of 3,845 kilometers of 2D long-offset, high-resolution, broadband seismic and offers extensive regional coverage of the Cape Vogel Basin and Huon Gulf.

Searcher Seismic said that Triok followed the acquisition of the Solomon Sea non-exclusive 2D in the Northern Basins of Papua New Guinea. The survey was completed in October 2018 using the BGP Explorer and is PSDM processed.

Andrew Weller, APAC manager for Searcher Seismic, said: “Modern and historic seismic coverage in the area is sparse and thus the survey has been designed to understand the tectonic history and image deep structures within the areas.

“The Triok survey will provide new insight into unexplored areas of Papua New Guinea and provide further knowledge into the area’s architecture and regional evolution.”

According to the company, initial results suggest a significant Mesozoic section with affinities to the prospective Gulf with several plays to investigate including carbonate build-ups, pinch-outs, and incised channels.
