Sembmarine: Golden Eagle LQ Module to Be Completed in May

A project milestone was achieved Monday on the Golden Eagle Living Quarters module, currently under construction on Sembmarine SLP’s Lowestoft Yard.

The 70 tonne cantilevered Helideck was positioned adjacent to the top deck of the six storey offshore structure in a single lift. The LQ module which is due for completion and load out in early May of this year is currently undergoing final stages of fitting out.

Sembmarine SLP’s Managing Director Paul Thomson said yesterday “This is a significant step in the completion process of our current project for Nexen UK. The project team and yard personnel are to be commended for the continuing high stands of safety in this difficult but incident free operation.”

This six-level state of the art accommodation module has been designed, engineered, procured and constructed in Sembmarine SLP’s Lowestoft yard. Part of Nexen’s £2 billion Golden Eagle project, the offshore Living Quarters (LQ) have been designed to meet precise weight specifications and will be fully integrated into the topside platform. The LQ module will be able to accommodate a crew of 140 people.

The Golden Eagle development encompasses both the Golden Eagle and Peregrine reservoirs located in central North Sea blocks 20/1N, 20/1 and 14/26a, approximately 43 miles from Aberdeen. The development plan for Golden Eagle incorporates a combined production, utilities and accommodation platform linked to a separate wellhead platform. Plans call for 20 development wells (16 platform-based and four subsea) to be drilled. The development will also include associated in-field and export pipeline infrastructure.
