Siem Helix 2 Starts Brazil Ops

Helix Energy Solutions’ well intervention vessel, Siem Helix 2, has completed the acceptance process and is on contract offshore Brazil.

The vessel will be performing well intervention services under a multi-year contract with Petrobras.

Owen Kratz, president and chief executive officer of Helix, said: “We are pleased to announce the commencement of operations of Siem Helix 2 for Petrobras. Our team applied the lessons learned from the Siem Helix 1 process to efficiently complete the Siem Helix 2 acceptance and testing.

“With the addition of the Siem Helix 2, the sixth well intervention vessel in our fleet, we continue to strengthen our position in the well intervention market.”

Siem Helix 2 is a sister vessel to Siem Helix 1, which is currently conducting work offshore Brazil for Petrobras.

Both vessels were chartered by the Helix Energy Solutions in 2014 for an initial period of 7 years, with options to extend the charter up to 22 years.

Siem Helix 2 has a length of 158 meters, a beam of 31 meters and an accommodation capacity for 150 people.
