Siem Offshore Contractors Selects JDR for Beatrice Inner Array Cables
Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) has selected UK based JDR to design, manufacture and supply around 163km of 33kV inner array grid cables for the 588 MW Beatrice offshore wind farm.
JDR will be manufacturing the submarine composite cables at its Hartlepool facility. These will be directly loaded out into the turntables on-board SOC’s cable lay vessel Siem Aimery.
It was also announced that SOC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siem Offshore, has opened an office in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, Scotland to serve as local project office and act as the focal point for the company’s UK market growth strategy.
“We are pleased to be able to contribute to the growth of Aberdeen’s renewable energy ambitions,” said Andy Martin, SOC’s project manager for the Beatrice OWF.
It is planned that the office will consist of up to ten full time employees, made up of local workforce where possible supported by head-office staff and key domestic and international subcontractors as required. It is envisaged that future UK contracts will be managed via this office.
The offshore works for the Beatrice OWF package are due to begin in 2017, with project completion scheduled in 2018.
