Siemens bags Njord A award

Siemens has been awarded a contract by Statoil to upgrade the control and safety systems on the Njord A platform as part of a major upgrade of the semi-submersible unit. 

The Njord A platform, normally producing oil from the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea, recently arrived at Kvaerner Stord to be reinforced and renovated for production beyond 2030. Kvaerner was awarded the contract with Statoil to upgrade the Njord A semi-submersible platform in April this year.

Bård Berle, the Sales Manager at Siemens, noted that the company has the expertise to upgrade and thus prolong the life of the older systems.

Siemens was also responsible for the upgrade of control and safety systems at the Oseberg field center.

According to Berle, many platforms in the North Sea need upgrades and now that the oil prices are low it makes sense to equip them to operate with greater efficiency.

The contract will be carried out from Siemens’ office in Bergen but it will also engage resources in Oslo, Trondheim, and Stavanger. Furthermore, the contract will engage 25 to 30 engineers.
