Siemens Gamesa Commissions Half of European OW Turbines in H1 2019

Siemens Gamesa supplied nearly half of the connected offshore wind turbines in Europe in the first six months of 2019, according to WindEurope.

WindEurope reported that 133 Siemens Gamesa turbines were connected to the grid in the first half of the year, producing 931MW of energy and taking 48% of the market.

MHI Vestas follows with 39% and 89 turbines producing 743MW of capacity and GE Renewable Energy with 13% and 42 turbines providing 252MW.

As recently reported, Europe added 1.9GW of new offshore wind capacity in the first half of 2019, up from the 1.1GW installed in the same period last year.

Countries contributing to the new installations are the UK with 931MW, including Ørsted’s Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm, Denmark with 374MW, Belgium with 370MW and Germany with 252MW.

At the end of last year, Europe set the target to have at least 32% of electricity produced by renewable energy by 2030.
