Sonatrach to supply LNG to Jordan

Algeria is set to supply liquefied natural gas to Jordan following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Monday.

As Hasan Hiari, head of Jordan’s Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources natural gas department, told Bloomberg the deal with Sonatrach Group covers not only LNG but crude oil and LPG.

Hiari added that Jordan looked to sign the MoU as an attempt to diversify its supply sources.

Deliveries of LNG, crude oil and LPG are set to start during this year.

Sonatrach has the capacity to produce 16.3 mtpa of LNG at its Arzew facility and additional 4.7 mtpa at the Skikda plant.

Jordan started importing liquefied natural gas in May last year when the 160,000 cbm FSRU Golar Eskimo arrived in the port of Aqaba. The FSRU is capable of delivering up to 500 mmscfd with a peaking capacity of 750 mmscfd.
