Odfjell Places Order for Four Chemical Tankers at HMD

Odfjell has today signed a ship building contract with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Ltd. for construction of four 46,000 DWT chemical tankers. The new ships will have an eco-friendly design with less fuel consumption.

Deliveries are scheduled between January and July 2014.

The contract price is close to USD 160 million. Odfjell has also signed an option agreement for additionally four sister vessels, at the same prices.

The newbuildings will replace a number of old vessels the Company has recycled during recent years.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co, one of HHI’s subsidiaries, had started shipbuilding in the early 1980′s and strengthened its newbuilding business since 1996 according to mid-term business strategy. The company is a shipbuilder of medium-sized vessels such as product/chemical carrier, bulk carrier, container carrier, PCTC, Con/Ro-Ro vessel, LPG carrier, General Cargo Carrier, Asphalt Carrier, offshore units and specialized vessels.
