South Korea ups November LNG imports

South Korea, the world’s second-largest buyer of LNG, boosted its imports of the chilled fuel by 26.9 percent in November year-on-year, according to the customs data.

The country imported 3.42 million mt of LNG in November, as compared to 2.69 million mt in the corresponding month last year.

South Korea paid about US$1.33 billion for November imports, just 0.6 percent down year-on-year, the data showed.

The world’s largest LNG exporter, Qatar, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 1.20 million mt of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar in November.

Although the Qatari volumes increased by 14.2 percent, the price decreased by 15 percent, when compared to November last year.

Australia was South Korea’s second-biggest LNG supplier in November with volumes reaching 751,038 mt.

The remaining volumes imported into South Korea were sourced from Indonesia, Oman, Malaysia, Russia, Brunei, Nigeria and India.
