South Korean Ministry of National Defense Halts Wind Farms Development

The South Korean Ministry of National Defense has halted development of Saemangeum wind power cluster project and the 200MW wind power project in Daejeong-ri, Jeju due to a concern that the radar signal can be disturbed by wind turbines, reports Etnews.

In order to get a green light from the Ministry, the developers will have to coat wind turbine blades with stealth paint, which absorbs 90% of the radar signal. This way the radars will be exposed to less noise.

The 200MW Saemangeum wind energy project is expected to be completed in 2014, and the construction of the first phase of Daejeong-ri will commence by 2015.
