SPEX Group Names New COO (UK)

Just weeks after appointing Jamie Oag as chief executive officer, Aberdeen-based technology development firm SPEX Group has made another high profile senior appointment. Nadir Mahjoub joins as chief operating officer after over two decades at Halliburton, most recently as Qatar Country Manager.

Mahjoub’s extensive CV includes senior roles in a variety of locations including the North Sea, Far East and Middle East.

Speaking of his appointment Mahjoub said: “I am hugely excited about joining SPEX as the Group restructures to target accelerated technology development in partnership with key clients.

“SPEX is in a unique position to contribute to the industry’s need for innovation as we enter challenging waters. We are a well-resourced, nimble firm with some of the best minds in the industry and the capacity to develop concepts, prototype and test here in Aberdeen. The speed at which we can take projects from concept to completion is unique in the global market and puts us in an incredibly strong position to win new business.”

SPEX, recently shortlisted for the 2013 Offshore Achievement Awards and named Scotland’s fastest growing company of its size by Business Insider magazine in 2012, is currently testing a series of tools in the Gulf of Mexico. One of these tools, the Emergency Separation Tool (EST), which allows operators to sever non-shearable components such as drill collars and casing, has been designed, engineered, prototyped and tested in just 18-months. SPEX is licensed to manufacture, market and service the EST.

Oag said: “Securing Nadir Mahjoub as COO of SPEX is a massive coup. Having worked with him to develop patented technology in the past I know he is the right person to oversee our ambitious growth plans as we seek to develop step-change technology for clients all over the world.”

SPEX Group employs over 80 staff from its Dyce premises and offers an integrated product development service with engineering design, alongside machining, and test capabilities all project managed and delivered internally.
