Spirit said on Friday it had submitted the ES for the North Sea development to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, launching a public consultation on the plans.

“The submission of the Environmental Statement is a key milestone in progressing Pegasus West towards final sanction and full development,” Spirit Energy said.

Spirit Energy will make a final investment decision (FID) on the southern North Sea field, which would be produced as a subsea tieback to the Cygnus Alpha complex, in 2019.

In advance of final sanction, the Environmental Statement sets out the steps Spirit Energy will take to mitigate any impact of the development on the surrounding area. Should the Environmental Statement be approved and Pegasus West be sanctioned, first gas from the field would be between 2021 and 2023, the company said.

The selected field development concept is a single well subsea tieback to the existing Neptune Energy-operated Cygnus gas development in Block 44/12 of the United Kingdom Continental Shelf. It is envisaged that the subsea infrastructure will also enable tie-in of future economic volumes from the Greater Pegasus Structure.

The Pegasus West well, located in Block 43/13b, in 29m of water is approximately 107km north-east of Flamborough Head on the North Yorkshire coast. The Cygnus platform is located approximately 35km from the UK/NL jurisdictional median line at Cygnus.
