Spotted: MT Acadian First Ship at Rebuilt Irving Terminal

In today’s spotted we present you MT Acadian, a product/chemical tanker owned by Dutch shipping company Vroon, which has been the inaugurating ship at the rebuilt Irving terminal in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  

Having been deactivated in 2002, Irving Oil’s Halifax marine terminal was reopened on October 20, 2016. The USD 80 million project was completed in 18 months.

The facility now enables the storage and distribution of gasoline, diesel, home heating oil, marine transportation fuel, and jet fuel.

The vessel, featuring a length of 182.5 meters and a width of 27.3 meters, was part of the reopening ceremony.

“It’s exciting to see the Acadian alongside the jetty today – it will be just one of a fleet of ships regularly calling here, making this terminal an integral hub for serving the energy needs of Nova Scotia,” Mark Sherman, Irving Oil’s Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, said.

The 37,515 dwt Acadian, built in 2005 at South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, is one of the company’s 11 product/chemical tankers.
