Ocean liner Queen Mary 2, the flagship of UK-based cruise line Cunard Line, a part of Carnival Corporation & plc, sailed into its US homeport of Brooklyn, New York, on July 6 after a significant refit costing in the region of USD 132 million.

Featuring 148,528 gross tons, the vessel has been remastered with 50 new cabins and 200 tonnes of steel construction which was integrated into the ship.

Other works on the vessel included new drives, maintenance of the three bow thrusters, a paint job, the installation of four new scrubbers and the corresponding exhaust gas filters.

The shipbuilding and mechanical engineering work comprised modifications to the bridge wing, the installation of new bulkheads for improved damage stability and modifications to the tanks.

The refit of the 2003-built cruise ship was conducted over a period of 25 days at the German Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg.

Queen Mary 2 continued its schedule of Transatlantic Crossings as it set sail for Southampton on July 6.

This was the sixth time that the 345-meter-long Queen Mary 2 docked at Blohm+Voss.
