SR2000 almost ready for comeback to EMEC

The SR2000 floating tidal turbine will next week be towed back to Fall of Warness tidal testing site following the completion of repair works.

The 2MW turbine was towed to Hatston Pier in Orkney late in May for minor repairs on its export cable that was damaged during construction in 2016.

It will be towed back and connected to its moorings at the European Marine Energy Center’s (EMEC) Fall of Warness site some time between June 18-21, 2017, where it is undergoing grid-connected testing program.

Orkney-based renewables services provider Green Marine UK will use its Green Isle multipurpose vessel to conduct the operation.

To remind, the SR2000 reached its full-rated capacity in April this year.

A month later, the developer behind the technology Scotrenewables Tidal Power informed the turbine had generated over 18MWh of energy over 24-hour testing cycle.
