SR2000 to restart EMEC trials next week

Scotrenewables Tidal Power plans to redeploy its SR2000 tidal turbine at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) next week.

Orkney-based marine service provider Green Marine UK has been engaged to tow the SR2000 tidal turbine starting from March 6, 2017, from Hatston berth to the Falls of Warness tidal test site.

Green Marine UK will use Green Isle multipurpose vessel, with the support by the RIB Agricola to tow the 2MW tidal device to the site for a short term deployment.

The device is expected to be connected to its moorings by March 12, 2017.

The 550 tonne SR2000 floating tidal turbine consists of a 64 meters floating hull that incorporates two 1MW rotors mounted on retractable legs.

The device uses a mooring system that allows the tidal generator to weathervane about the mooring point to maintain a heading into the tidal stream to maximize power generation efficiency.

To remind, Scotrenewables first installed its SR2000 device at EMEC in October last year.
