STATS Group’s Human Resources Manager Speaks at Ignite Event, UK

Pipeline engineering specialist, STATS Group, will outline the difficulties in recruiting key staff at a major energy recruitment show next week.

Human resources manager, Derek Smart, will speak at the Ignite! event in London and discuss how in 2006 STATS was one of the first north east companies to tap in to the emerging Polish job market to recruit 12 fitters, machinists and welders to plug a skills gap.

He said: “The oil and gas industry needs to change its approach to recruitment and retention, with investment in people being key to solving some of the skill shortages across the industry, but which many companies fail to do in a proactive manner.

“Six years ago we recognised that one way of adding to our workforce was by tapping in to new talent pools, rather than simply moving around the same talent pool, and that is still relevant today if we are to achieve our growth objectives.

“We have a wealth of opportunities to grow our business at home and abroad but the greatest obstacle to that is in finding the right people with the relevant skills who can develop with us.”

Based in Kintore, STATS Group employs 153 staff and designs, manufactures and installs a range of piping and isolation tools to the international oil and gas sector.
